NEWSFLASH 1. The National Council of State presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of N27,000 as the new minimum wage. The Council approved the sum during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which had in attendance former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, among others. 2. The Buhari Campaign Organisation, BCO, has instituted a N40million libel suit against the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of defaming President Muhammadu Buhari and his family. President Buhari was cited as the 2nd Plaintiff in the suit that was lodged before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory. 3. There was mild drama at the Federal Neuropsychiatic Hospital Enugu, on Tuesday as the embattled Medical Director, Dr. Jojo Onwukwe was been kicked out by the workers. Onwukwe, who was suspended by the Board of the Hospital, suddenly staged a come back to resume duties but was bundled out by angry workers. 4. Former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has said his ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, was not a saint but would make a better leader than incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari. In an interview with BBC Pidgin, published on Tuesday, the former president further slammed President Buhari, saying he was undeserving of re-election. 5. Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) Chairman, Prof Itse Sagay (SAN) on Tuesday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo was suffering from what he called “power withdrawal syndrome”. I had a similar experience recently at a friends family Christmas party some where in Ikoyi Lagos. I got there and was offered various type of expensive drink right from the gate even before i saw my friend. But i insisted on sitting down first and at least see my host before eating anything and besides i don't take alcohol, so i sat down for like 8 minutes or more, then comes my very correct Pal from secondary school days & his first sentence was "Haaaa Dee, I have been looking for you since i saw your car parked outside, he asked me if i had eaten anything and he was very happy after i answered NO to his question. *Then he pulled me to one side and said to me, please ooo this is not just a party that you can eat from oooo. You are too dear to me, he said not even my father can eat from the food cooked here, if you see him eat be assured its another food.* I was shocked and calm that i couldn't say a word. Possible dangers of the 10years challenge.

THE POSSIBLE DANGERS OF THE #10YEARCHALLENGE (READ AND SHARE)! About a week ago, a meme popularly known as #10yearchallenge rocked the Social media. Apparently, it's a challenge which involves people posting up then-and-now pictures of themselves from 2009 and 2019 (from 10 years ago). In some cases — especially celebrities — it’s a way of bragging about how they haven’t aged. Others show signs of what nature can do to a human over the course of a decade. As recorded, the meme started when a meteorologist, Damon Lane (an American with about 114k followers) posted his (then-and-now) photos side by side, and boasting of his achievements; consequently, many of his followers started sharing the photos and began to create theirs, and within 24hours, it went viral on the social media. While it appears interesting to make a throwback of oneself some years back with a hashtag (which is not bad), it becomes also pertinent to think about its implications, since it involves the internet where human data could easily be hacked, doctored or manipulated. I remembered having made a photo comparison of me 2 days BEFORE the challenge broke out. With the advent of the challenge and way and manner it was carried out, I consequently deleted my post so as not to be confused with the #10yearchallenge. Besides, many of my friends were on my neck that I should partake in the challenge which I quietly ignored due to the little doubts I had about it. My doubts about the #10yearchallenge concretized when it was displayed on “BOM DIA BRASIL”, the possible dangers involved. “Bom Dia Brasil” ("Good Morning Brazil") is a Brazilian television NEWS program on Rede Globo (Globe Network or simply “Globo”, a Brazilian free-to-air television network). In the NEWS, experts revealed that hackers could use your pictures to hack facial recognition. How is this possible? There is a facial recognition software and other algorithms to compare my looks from a decade ago until now, it could easily do that because it has access to the photos I’ve posted or am tagged in, including the dates they were posted. To explain this better, let me use the analogy of the arithmetic progression of numbers, which we all studied in Mathematics. If I post 1_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 10 and ask you to find the missing numbers, your human intelligence would quickly reveal to you that 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 are the missing numbers; consequently, I could also use this progression to arrive at the number 20 (which is ten dots away). Similarly, this facial recognition software is an intelligence machine, which is capable of learning how we have developed over the course of 10 years and possibly predict how we would most probably look like in the next 10 years; and since our world today is being "ruled" by technology, one’s privacy could easily be hacked and impersonated in the nearest future, this could lead to loss of valuables and resources. In this regard, the more data you share, the more you become a target. It even becomes alarming as my fellow Nigerians took the lead by making not only #10yearchallenge but several memes of 5, 7, 12, 15, 20yearchallenge photos… Laughable, isn’t it? Well, as stated earlier, it is not bad, neither has your account been hacked yet; however, you could be placing yourself at a higher risk of being hacked and being victimized in the future. The bitter truth is that we all on Facebook are potential targets since we’ve got lots of our photos, years back on our respective Timelines; nevertheless, the ones that are easily vulnerable are the ones that participated in the challenge, for they could be easily detected by the hashtag or the keywords. For instance, if you type “10 years challenge” in the search bar of your Facebook page, you would easily detect those who have participated in this challenge; this could easily be done by hackers (who do not have the time to visit people’s timeline individually) and they might easily get a host of unlucky victims. I believe that we’re already familiar with our smartphones’ method of unlocking itself using our face or fingerprint? This is exactly the logic. Our face/fingerprint is the most individual piece of personal ID that we have, so we should be more careful about setting clues for hackers to forge it. After being enlightened by the NEWS, I made further research yesterday and discovered that other American I.T experts shared similar views. I happened to delve into a “Wired opinion piece” by Kate O'Neill who also explored the issues and risks that can come with memes and social games, such as the 10-year challenge. She said: "Imagine that you wanted to train a facial recognition algorithm on age-related characteristics and, more specifically, on age progression (e.g., how people are likely to look as they get older). Ideally, you'd want a broad and rigorous dataset with lots of people's pictures. It would help if you knew they were taken a fixed number of years apart—say, 10 years". Wired's editor, Nicholas Thompson, also tweeted the article, adding, "Let's say you wanted to train a facial recognition algorithm on aging. What would you do? Maybe start a meme like #10yearchallenge". Therefore, the broader message is that we need to approach our interactions with technology mindful of the data we generate and how it can be used at scale. NEWSFLASH Herdsmen raze down Catholic seminary, ASUU strike to continue, Catholic group wants 33 parties de-registered, We’ve been vindicated by Buhari’s refusal to participate in debate —IPOB, Obasanjo lambasts Buhari... 1. Gunmen, said to be in their hundreds, have attacked Bare, a community in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, reportedly razing houses and structures, including a Catholic seminary there. Witnesses said the attackers were herdsmen, and that this latest incident would be a continuation of past similar attacks over grazing land that made many residents to leave the community. The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Yola, Bishop Stephen Mamza said nothing of the identities of the attackers but confirmed the destruction of the Catholic Seminary, and said security agents did not respond on time to save the day. He said, “Our reverend father’s house was burnt and there’s no house around that area that is standing now. They have burnt all the houses. All my parishioners have left. Nobody can live there.” 2. Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari has taken Nigeria back to the era of late General Sani Abacha.Obasanjo, speaking on Sunday in his state of the nation address, which he tagged “Points for Concern and Action”, said just like the Abacha era, state institutions are being used to fight perceived enemies of the head of state. 3. President Muhammadu Buhari, Sunday night, lambasted former President Olusegun Obasanjo for attacking his government. Buhari said all the former president needed was a good doctor for good treatment and to say to him, “Get well soon.” 4. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, has advised Nigerians to collect the bribes offered by politicians during the 2019 general elections. He said the money had been stolen from them and that voters should not reject such offer. 5. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday told Nigerians to look forward to greater prosperity and impactful leadership should he be reelected and return to power in the forthcoming election. He said from the personal accounts of testifiers, it was obvious that the administration had positively impacted on the people. 6. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the weekend revealed that the union can only suspend its ongoing industrial action when the federal government releases the sum of N50billion revitalisation fund. ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi who stated this in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, insisted that the federal government must pay the N50 billion revitalisation fund for the union to consider suspending the ongoing strike. 7. The Nigerian Navy has said that it has commenced the recruitment of interested applicants for the year 2019. Commodore Suleman Dahun, the Navy Director of Information, said interested members of the public are requested to apply online at www.joinnigeriannavy.com. 8. Two groups, the Biafra Government in Exile (BGIE) and the Biafra Shadow Government (BSG), have urged the people of the area not to participate in the 2019 general elections. The pro-Biafra groups said precedents showed that whether or not they voted, the administration that would emerge after the election would still not favour their course. 9. The Justice Development and Peace Initiative (JDPI) of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demanding de-registration of 33 non-performing political parties. The JDPI said in the letter dated Jan. 12 that it was making the call based on the provisions of the 1999 constitution. It said that constitution provided that INEC had unfettered power to de-register a political party which participated in a governorship election and failed to win at least 25 per cent of the votes cast in one local government of the state in the said election. 10. IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu made this known in a radio broadcast to his members yesterday. Kanu also blamed South-East governors whom he described as “stooges” of the northern establishment for allegedly orchestrating the labelling of his group as a terrorist organisation by the Federal Government, saying that the invasion of Igbo land by soldiers on Operation Python Dance 11’informed IPOB’s decision to boycott the forthcoming general elections in the country. A lot, if you believe the many entrepreneurs, from MBA students to Fortune 500 CEOs, who still read his most famous book, *How to Win Friends and Influence People.* You see, Carnegie knew how to sell. Fresh out of college, he quickly became the top-performing sales rep in the nation for his employer, Armour & Co. He went on to become a highly sought-after innovator and public speaker. His strategy was simple: Take a genuine interest in the lives of others. *“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you,”* he wrote. *Here are nine sales tips based on the principles Carnegie outlines in the book.* *Tip 1: Smile.* Carnegie called it “a simple way to make a good first impression.” Every business encounter — across the desk, at the customer’s front door, and even on the telephone — should begin with a smile. “Actions,” Carnegie noted, “speak louder than words. And a smile says, ‘I like you.’” *Tip 2: Listen.* Customers and clients want to hear what you have to say, but they want you to hear what they have to say first. Beyond that, consider this: How can you, as a sales rep, know what customers need if you don’t give them chance to tell you? *Tip 3: Arouse an “eager want.”* It almost sounds poetic. Carnegie cited Harry A. Overstreet as the originator of this idea. If you insist on building a case for why you erred, you’ll only drag things out. *Tip 7: Let customers sell to themselves.* In general, people do not like to be told what to do or what to buy. Provide information and be helpful, but let customers make the decision. You do this by asking questions and steering the conversation until customers realize that your product or service is the solution they’ve been looking for. *Tip 8: Ask what’s in it for customers.* When discussing your product, put it in terms that speak to your customers’ interests. You may have the biggest, fastest, and most reliable product on the market, but unless customers see how it benefits them, you won’t make sales. *Tip 9: Dramatize your ideas.* This has less to do with human interaction and more to do with a flair for the dramatic. Do not be afraid to engage in a little showmanship, as long as it is honest and doesn’t mislead people. For example, Carnegie tells the story of a cash-register salesman who told a grocer that the registers his store was using were so old that he was literally throwing money away. With that, the salesman threw a handful of coins on the floor. He got the sale. *The Bottom Line* Ultimately, a sales transaction is a conversation between two people — whether in person, on the phone, or online. One person wants to buy; the other wants to sell. The conversation is the bridge that makes it all happen. Dale Carnegie said the secret to success was being interested in other people. Now you know it, too.
